A few weeks ago, I did something that’s pretty far outside of my personal and professional comfort zone–submitted some image for feedback on Kelby One’s The Grid.
For those not familiar, The Grid is a weekly show hosted by Scott Kelby–often with a guest–that features news, tips, and blind critiques of images. This week’s guest was Kristina Sherk, a fantastic DC-based photographer and high-end retoucher.
I had sent three images in on a whim–two of which I really liked my retouching and a third in which I tried something outside my normal process–and kinda forgot about until a week or so later, when I launched the episode and started skimming though until I froze upon seeing my image on the screen.
–GULP!–
The good news is the had nice things to say about my work and gave me some great suggestions on how to tweak the image I wasn’t so sure about. This tweak even made it into a blog post over on Scott Kelby’s Lightroom Killer Tips site.
So, I guess this was a good experience for me and I put some work out there, got some validation and feedback, and lived to tell about it without burning all my gear! If you get the chance, I highly recommend submitting your images in for an objective critique.
